Engineering Graphics and Design: Grade 11
The CAPS Grade 11 year: parts become assemblies, solids meet and interpenetrate, flat sheet is developed into three-dimensional shapes, and mechanisms start to move. Builds directly on the Grade 10 conventions — the projection rules do not change, the problems get harder.

What you'll learn
- Draw and read third-angle assemblies with non-sectional, sectional, half and part sections, using correct conventional representations
- Represent bolts, nuts, lock nuts, washers, keys and keyways to convention, with a parts list and title block
- Produce single-storey civil plans, elevations and sectional elevations from foundation to ceiling, with areas and perimeters
- Construct the curve of interpenetration between prisms and cylinders with axes in line or at an angle
- Develop the flat pattern of prisms, cylinders, pyramids, cones and simple transition pieces
- Plot a helix and a uniform-motion cam profile from a displacement graph
Before you start
- Grade 10 EGD: line conventions, first and third angle, sections and true shapes
- Confident with compasses, set squares and the equal-division construction
