What you'll learn

  • Sort things into living, once-living and non-living, and describe what all living things need to stay alive
  • Identify the parts of a plant and the habitats of animals, and explain how living things are suited to where they live
  • Name everyday materials and their properties, and choose a suitable material for a given job
  • Explain that energy makes things happen, that the Sun is Earth's main source of energy, and that movement needs a push or a pull
  • Describe Earth as a ball of land, water and air, explain what causes day and night, and tell the Sun and the Moon apart

Before you start

  • Observe and describe everyday objects, plants and animals using the senses
  • Sort familiar things into simple groups by a property such as colour, size or shape
  • Count, read and write whole numbers up to at least two digits
