Our Planet Earth
≈ 12 minEarth is the planet we live on. It is a giant ball (a sphere) floating in space. From very far away, Earth looks blue and green, because so much of it is covered by water and land.
Earth has three main parts:
- land — like the mountains, the Karoo and the fields where we grow mielies;
- water — rivers, dams and the huge oceans around our coast;
- air — a blanket of air wrapped all around the planet, which we breathe.
Most of Earth's surface is covered by water.
Worked example. Why can we live on Earth but not on the Moon? Earth has air to breathe, water to drink, and just the right warmth from the Sun. The Moon has no air and no liquid water, so nothing can live there.
What is the shape of planet Earth?
More of Earth's surface is covered by this than by land. What is it?
Why can living things survive on Earth but not on the Moon?
The blanket of ___ wrapped all around Earth is the part that we breathe. Fill in the missing word.
