Telling the Time

Time has its own units, and they do not go up in tens:

60seconds=1minute60minutes=1hour60\,\text{seconds} = 1\,\text{minute} \qquad 60\,\text{minutes} = 1\,\text{hour}
24hours=1day7days=1week24\,\text{hours} = 1\,\text{day} \qquad 7\,\text{days} = 1\,\text{week}

On a clock, the short hand shows the hour and the long hand shows the minutes. To find how long something lasts (elapsed time), count on from the start to the end.

Worked example. School starts at 08:0008{:}00 and ends at 14:0014{:}00. How long is the school day?

Count the hours from 88 to 1414: that is 148=614 - 8 = 6 hours.

How many minutes are there in 11 hour?

How many minutes are there in 22 hours?

School starts at 08:0008{:}00 and ends at 14:0014{:}00. How long is the school day?

How many days are there in 33 weeks?
