Past papers are a diagnostic tool. Used as a source of answers to memorise they are nearly worthless; used to find your weaknesses they are the most efficient revision available.
Analyse the structure. NSC EGD papers follow a consistent shape: a mechanical assembly or detail question, a civil question, a solid geometry or interpenetration question, and a loci or cam question. Knowing the shape means you can budget time before you have even read the paper.
Analyse your errors by type, not by question. "Lost marks on question 3" tells you nothing useful. "Used the wrong projection convention", "took a foreshortened length as true", "joined section points out of order" tells you exactly what to drill — and those errors recur across different questions.
Work to the real time limit. A question worked in unlimited time proves you can do it eventually. The examination asks whether you can do it in the time allowed.
Worked example. A learner finds that three separate lost marks all trace to not constructing a true length. That is one habit to fix, not three unrelated mistakes — and fixing it improves interpenetration, developments and descriptive geometry at once.
