Reading Bar Graphs
≈ 15 minA bar graph shows data as bars whose height stands for a value. To read one, first check the labels and the scale on the value axis, then read each bar against that scale.
Here is the data behind a bar graph — pieces of fruit sold at a spaza shop in one morning:
| Fruit | Number sold |
|---|---|
| Apples | 12 |
| Bananas | 18 |
| Oranges | 9 |
| Mangoes | 6 |
The tallest bar (Bananas, ) sold the most; the shortest (Mangoes, ) sold the least.
Using the fruit data (Apples , Bananas , Oranges , Mangoes ), which fruit sold the most?
Using the same data, how many oranges and mangoes were sold altogether?
Using the same data, how many more bananas than apples were sold?
Using the same data, how many pieces of fruit were sold in total?
