Decimals to Hundredths
≈ 20 minA decimal extends place value past the units, separated by a decimal point. The first place after the point is tenths, the second is hundredths:

So means ones tenths hundredths. Just like whole numbers, each place is ten times the one on its right — a hundredth is ten times smaller than a tenth.
Worked example. Which is larger, or ? Write as . Compare tenths: , so is larger. A common slip is to think is bigger 'because it has more digits' — but more digits does not mean a bigger number.
