Exam-Style Revision

The final lesson consolidates the whole course into an exam-ready routine.

Marks live in the working:

  1. Show the rearrangement to standard form.
  2. Name or show the method (factors, roots, formula).
  3. Give both roots for quadratics; state rejections with reasons.
  4. Check by substitution — silently for yourself, always.

Time budget (CAPS paper rhythm): linear ≈ 2–3 marks / 3 minutes; quadratic by factorising ≈ 3–4 marks; formula questions ≈ 4–5 marks. If a factor-hunt exceeds ~40 seconds, switch to the formula — it earns the same marks.

The classic mark-losers, one last time: dividing by xx (lost root) · forgetting ±\pm (lost root) · sign slip in 4ac-4ac · answering the equation but not the question ("find the width" wants metres, not just xx).

Solve: 5x3=2(x+3)5x - 3 = 2(x + 3). Answer in the form x=…

Solve: x27x+12=0x^2 - 7x + 12 = 0. Answer in the form x=… or x=…

Compute the discriminant of 3x2+2x1=03x^2 + 2x - 1 = 0.

Which equation has no real solution?
