Homeostasis keeps internal conditions within ranges that support cells. After a carbohydrate-rich meal, blood glucose rises. The pancreas releases insulin, encouraging body cells to take up glucose and the liver to store some as glycogen. When blood glucose falls, glucagon promotes release of stored glucose. This is negative feedback: the response counteracts the original change.
