Accounting: Grade 10

The CAPS Grade 10 Accounting year, built on the one idea everything else rests on: every transaction has two effects, and the books must show both. Work from source document to journal to General Ledger to Trial Balance, then close a sole trader's year off into a set of financial statements you can actually explain.

  • Apply the accounting equation to any transaction, and say which account is debited, which is credited, and why
  • Write up the cash and credit journals, post to the General Ledger, and balance an account
  • Prepare a Trial Balance, and diagnose why one does not balance instead of guessing
  • Calculate VAT at 15% on inclusive and exclusive amounts, process salaries and year-end adjustments
  • Draw up a sole trader's Income Statement and Balance Sheet with notes, and interpret what they say about the business
